As this federal election campaign grinds boringly to an end, more and more citizens are becoming alienated from the major parties. Is it any wonder that ordinary punters regard both the federal coalition and the ALP as being both a double disillusion and doubly dissolute?
So don’t be surprised if, after July 2, one or two minor parties are elected to the Senate in a number of states. And this despite the hypocrisy of the Greens (once a minor party themselves) having teamed up with the Turnbull government …

Dead Men Don’t Order Flake
By Sue Williams
Text Publishing, 308pp, $29.99
Dead men don’t tell tales but, according to Australian author Sue Williams there are also other things they don’t do. “Dead men don’t order flake, she writes at the beginning of this finely wrought and highly amusing crime novel.
Yet that’s exactly what the supposedly deceased Leo Stone requested the April afternoon he strolled into Cassandra Tuplin’s takeaway, “his gladiator shoulders filling up her shop doorway. As well as being the owner-operator of the only takeaway shop in the tiny town of …

Drinks with the Sex Party
The pundits keep telling us that this is a dull election.
But imagine what it would be like without the minor parties. I did a quick sampling last week of some of them. At the very least they add some zest to the campaign. Few have much chance of winning a seat in the lower House but with the reduced Senate quota, some have realistic hopes of picking up a Senate seat.
Take the Christian Democratic Party. Its president is the Rev. Fred Nile MLC …

Just when you thought society was safe from metaphors of the military kind, the Australian Sex Party has declared war on the Catholic Church.
The pronouncement was made by Victorian parliamentarian Fiona Patten, who is also ASP president, in an email to her supporters on Tuesday.
Last week the Prime Minister and his Treasurer were criticised by sections of the media for suggesting the Labor Party had “waged war on business. But there has been scant reaction to Patten’s call for “all-out war on the Catholic Church.
This follows the report in …

Early in the week Professor Ross Fitzgerald , Hendo’s friend and (male) co-owner of Maddie , issued a call-out inviting all supporters of the Australia Sex Party to tell the world that two Catholic nuns had defaced a ASP poster in Collingwood. This led to a correspondence between the two blokes on the ASP’s attitudes to Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular. Here we go:
Ross Fitzgerald to Gerard Henderson , 4 June 2016
Nuns defacing Sex Party poster.
Please spread the word!

MARGOT SEVILLE : Crikey journalist based in Sydney
After last night’s political debate at the Sydney Institute, I’ve cancelled my plans to go to Holland. According to the Reverend Fred Nile, voluntary euthanasia laws there have meant that people are “too afraid to go to hospital for fear of being bumped off without consent. Could one broken foot lead to you prematurely popping your clogs? The 81-year-old veteran of the NSW upper house asserted that “hundreds, if not thousands of people have been killed in Dutch hospitals.
Nile, once described as …

The Catholic archdiocese of Melbourne has defended the Missionaries of Charity after a photograph emerged purporting to show two nuns from the order defacing a Sex party poster calling for the church to be taxed and marijuana to be legalised.
The party’s leader, Fiona Patten, said the pair seemed “hell-bent on tearing down the words “tax the church from a pole in Collingwood.
“Our policy to tax the church is fair and reasonable, especially where it applies to the church’s profit-making businesses, she said on Friday. “If the nuns would like to …
